Non-formal education
David Smawfield has a long-standing and diverse range of interests and experience in the field of non-formal education.
This includes:
- Teaching and curriculum development work in the Seychelles, within the Seychelles National Youth Service - linking education with productive activities. (1980-82)
- The design, implementation and supervision of vocational training and income generating programmes for Mozambican Refugees in Malawi (1989-93)
- The monitoring and supervision of DFID urban poverty reduction projects with vocational training and income generating components, in the role as DFID Education Representative in India; the review of Non Governmental Organisation non-formal education projects, and appraisal of project proposals under DFID's 'Joint Funding Scheme' (1994-98)
- A role as a long term expert, in the field of Non-Formal Education, under the European Union Funded Support to Basic Education Project, Turkey (2002-2007)
