Work with refugees
David Smawfield has undertaken consultancy assignments on behalf of UNHCR, UNESCO and UNDP to design and monitor education, vocational training, and income generating programmes for refugees. He maintains an ongoing interest in the field.
During 1989-93, David Smawfield was the Head of Vocational Training in the Southern Africa, Blantyre, Office of the Norwegian Refugee Council.
David Smawfield is the author of an important work on Vocational Training for Refugees, published by the Norwegian Refugee Council, with a Foreword by UNHCR.
He has also published in academic journals on educational issues relating to refugee education and vocational training.
